Jejunal polyp: a rare cause of intussusception

چکیده
We present the case of a 36-year-old male complaining of non-radiating abdominal pain for 15 days, with multiple episodes of green-colored vomitus. Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed jejuno-jejunal intussusception with a 6×3×3cm homogenously enhanced smoothly marginated polypoidal soft tissue neoplastic lesion at the lead point (Fig. 1). An intestinal segment with intussusception was sent for histopathology. On gross examination, a single sessile polypoidal mass was identified measuring 6×3×3cm. The cut surface was white, firm with focal myxoid appearance. Microscopic examination (Fig. 2) showed submucosal tumor with overlying ulcerated jejunal mucosa. The tumor was moderately cellular containing interlacing fascicles of bland spindle-shaped, smooth muscle cells. The nuclei appeared elongated and cigar-shaped, without any pleomorphism. There was no evidence of necrosis or abnormal mitosis. Immunohistochemistry was positive for desmin and smooth muscle actin but negative for c-KIT LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Endoscopic Treatment of Jejunal Heterotopic Gastric Mucosa that Caused Recurrent Intussusception
Heterotopic gastric mucosa (HGM) is a rare anomaly in the small bowel and may be the cause of intussusception when it gets a lead point in the jejunum. All cases of intussusception due to intestinal HGM have been treated with surgical resection. A 5-year-old girl presented with chief complaints of vomiting and abdominal pain for 2 weeks. A computed tomography scan of the abdomen showed intussus...
متن کاملRecurrent adult jejuno-jejunal intussusception due to inflammatory fibroid polyp – Vanek’s tumour: a case report
BACKGROUND Adult intussusception is a rare but challenging condition. Preoperative diagnosis is frequently missed or delayed because of nonspecific or sub-acute symptoms. CASE PRESENTATION We present the case of a sixty-two year old gentleman who initially presented with pseudo-obstruction. Computerised tomography displayed a jejuno-jejunal intussusception, which was treated by primary laparo...
متن کاملJejunal intussusception caused by a huge Vanek's tumor: a case report
Inflammatory fibroid polyp (known also as Vanek's tumor) is a type of localized, non-neoplastic inflammatory pseudotumor or inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor that occurs most commonly in the stomach but also in the small and large bowel. It is a documented cause of intussusception in adults. We report a case of a 40-year-old woman who presented with severe, postprandial abdominal pain followed...
متن کاملIntussusception due to Inflammatory Fibroid Polyp Located at Ileum
Majority of adult intussusceptions have a well-defined pathological abnormality as the definite cause. We report a case of 27 year old woman presented with vomiting and abdominal pain. We received a polypoidal; dumbbell shaped mass measuring 4×3.5×1 cm arising from the mucosal surface at one end of the small bowel. Outer surface of the polyp was grey to blackish and cut surface was solid, grey,...
